Design the exhibition catalogue and graphics that involve audience participation for 2012’s You Complete Me exhibition

The DeVos Art Museum asked me to design the graphics and exhibition catalogue for “You Complete Me: Mediating Relationships in Contemporary Art.” Since the exhibition was primarily about audience participation, the exhibition materials needed to be participatory as well. I wanted to create a main element that would be used across all materials. This was going to resemble a “new written language” of shapes, but upon closer investigation, one would notice that these shapes are portions of filled in English letters. These letters needed to be filled in with a pencil and taken to a mirror to read the title. This worked well for the postcard and posters. For the title wall, the same shapes were used, but were put in the correct orientation to be read. To have the viewers participate, chalk was provided to fill in the letterforms.
